I sometimes imagine I can save the world if I can just get the right people talking and listening to and befriending one another at the right time.
We have an alarmingly beautiful situation coming up on Monday night. Over at Belmont, we’re welcoming & honoring & contemplating together the witness of Gregory Thompson (artist, scholar columnist, pastor, and line chef) with art & poetry & music & discussion. On hand, you will find Taylor Leonhardt, Zandy Mowry, Jill Phillips, Andy Gullahorn, Donovan McAbee, and lots of wonderful people ready to talk and be together. It starts at 6pm, and it’s completely free.
Also…I’ll mention that despite the fact that Gregory and I only met in person the other night, I’ve been amazed to discover that we’ve been directly befriended and sustained by a lot of the same people across the centuries and have treasured, in an uncanny way, many of the same artists and activists. We’ll probably get into that a little, but…if you want to read a short essay to prepare yourselves, start here.
Come out.
And if you can’t, consider following up one one or some of the folks listed above and report back.
This was church. It was so good for me.
Some notes:
-“A willed habitation of one’s own body.” (Good theology. Good politics.)
-Can I make water from thirst?
-Can I make bread from hunger?
-“Speculative fear wilderness.”
-The world is not a disposable ladder to heaven.
I’m planning to attend and excited about it
