Sad news: Intervarsity Press isn’t printing Life’s Too Short To Pretend You’re Not Religious any more.
Good news: I’m doing a revised, revamped, and reimagined version with Broadleaf in the months to come.
Also good news: I’m in possession of the entire back stock. So….if you want copies of the lovely red book, I’m your man.
Interesting thing: Even as the fate of the book has felt fragile, an excerpt from the book has gone kindasorta viral. There’s a lesson here about the life of words. I don’t know what it is, but I’m thinking about it. Here’s the chunk of speech (which you’re more than welcome to share/ reproduce):
It could be that this passage will appear before more people than any other one thing I’ve ever written. I’m still happy with it, but I welcome feedback.
Here’s the amazing line from Iris Murdoch that these words lead up to within the longer text: “Love is the extremely difficult realisation that something other than oneself is real. Love, and so art and morals, is the discovery of reality.”
How do we get a copy?
Sorry to hear IVP is no longer printing Life's Too Short, but I'm looking forward to 2.0. I love your perspectives and your writing almost as much as your ability to demonstrate nuance and respect for those who differ with you.
(Since you asked for feedback, I could offer a technical writer's review of the above quote, but wouldn't want to do it publicly. I would offer any suggestions in the full knowledge that you are a better writer than I am.)
