Dearest Everyone,
The wonderful folks at Morgenstern’s Books in Bloomington have agreed to host me for an evening of reading and discussing and signing my book on May 8th from 6:30 to 8:00 in the PM. I’ve come to love Bloomington as our son Sam (a rising senior at Indiana University) studies and performs Jazz there. Do you know anyone nearby who might at least regard me as a subject of curiosity? Please consider notifying them of this opportunity to hear me do my thing.
And listen. Might you or someone you know want to host me to do my thing…say…in a bookstore or a library or a classroom or a place of worship? Let me put it this way: It wouldn’t take much.
By “thing,” I mean this:
That’s me laughing about I-don’t-know-what whilst in Tyler, Texas. The photo was taken by Fred Smith in the home of Mike Austin (who shares my love of R.E.M. and much else). It’s among my favorite images of myself. I love that I’m wearing that t-shirt. It names a mean spirit that often wreaks havoc by going unnamed and unidentified. I thank God that The Smile has seen fit to address the situation.
In any case, I am also trying to address the situation in a wide variety of contexts. Let me know if you’d like me to drop in on yours. Again, it wouldn’t take much.
Thanks for listening.
I live in Bloomington and was thrilled when I walked into Morgenstern’s and saw your book on display. Then I did a double-take and saw the sign saying you were doing a Q&A session. Sadly I can’t attend but I am sending others, including my daughter, to take copious notes. Welcome to Bloomington!
