“I doubt my decision will cause much of a stir and that it will be dismissed because I’m just a cartoonist. But I will not stop holding truth to power through my cartooning.”
Editor’s Note: The prophetic task is to dramatize (with words, gestures, drawings, jokes, actions & available means) the moral unseriousness we’re otherwise compelled to accept as normal. I don’t think anybody’s a prophet all day long, but I think anyone anywhere can take up the prophetic task in big and small ways at anytime. I am not here to tell anyone what to do, but…to my way of thinking…to share the rough of the cartoon leadership at the Washington Post wanted killed is to take up the prophetic task. Thank you, Ann Telnaes, for your witness.
That's courage.
The Mickey Mouse makes me think of Sang-ah Choi's painting "Welcome to America": https://collections.maiermuseum.org/mDetail.aspx?rID=M.2011.4&db=objects&dir=maier&osearch=choi&list=res&rname=&rimage=&page=1
Actually, I was still putting off cancelling my WAPO subscription. No more. This made a difference to me.
