The American Bar Association has spoken. Papa Francesca has spoken. Senator Angus King has spoken. And Grimes has let us know that her child appeared on film beside an unrepentant sexual predator without her consent. Aw Shucks Fascism is ascendant. We have a situation.
But that situation isn’t the only situation. There is still the matter of rock and roll. It’s a holy effort. Can you feel it?
I am here for Gold Connections. By that, I mean I believe them. I feel I get and feel gotten by them.
I heard Pavement and the Rolling Stones as points of reference on their debut effort, Popular Fiction, and now we have Fortune [pictured above] which evokes the Cars and, for me, Karl Wallinger’s World Party. There’s romance and bitterness and a keen eye for the militant denial of empire armed to the teeth, surveilling our moves, and funded by our taxes. I say all of this and more as I opine on the Gold Connections situation in Paste.
So….they’re out and about. You may have already missed them this go-around. But if you’re in Nashville or New Orleans, it’s not too late.
Check it.
I’m going. You can too by purchasing a ticket for tonight’s Strawberry Basement appearance here. I am told Gold Connections will take the stage at 8:45.
If you listen to any or all of Fortune or Popular Fiction and wish to share your feelings on the matter (even a single song or a single lyric) below, I’d welcome that.
Stay safe, America.
And I know I’m not alone
And I know I’m not alone
And I know I’m not alone
Anything but this
