It’s always a joy to get a call from Bob Smietana. He does the work of saying what he sees and hears on the “religion” beat with grace, nuance, and wit while never losing sight of the real-life human beings who make their coin within the Prayer Trade. That was a great read. Painful in its relevance. But consoling in that it makes me feel less alone. I have also been thinking of The Last Battle quite a bit for a different reason. It’s when the dwarfs are stuck in the stable and are unable to see Aslan’s Country. It seems like an apt image for the Christians lost to white supremacy and Trumpism. If that makes sense.
