I speak with authority. People in Nashville have been behaving beautifully since before I was born here.
But yes, Amy Grant recently made headlines by behaving decently toward her own family. The response of a few high rollers who hold abusive positions they seem to think they have to publicly stake out to maintain their overhead is ugly and telling. Tyler Huckabee narrates the situation wonderfully. Grifters gonna grift. Hear this part: “When an ostracized minority needs a safe place to celebrate their commitment to each other, baby, that’s what love is for.”
Franklin Graham and Bart Barber targeting Amy and Vince Gill for being awesome is a move disgracefully akin to Elon Musk trying to remove a suicide prevention feature from Twitter. Weaponized despair seems to be their product. They want a return on their investment (Acts 19:25). Their power is needy as hell. And hell plays for keeps.
I hope Amy Grant’s civic courage will inspire Michael W. Smith and others within her circle to raise the bar here, there, and everywhere. If this happens, we might be on the cusp of the best Tennessee Christmas ever.
Stay safe, everyone.

Yes, a tender and truthful Tennessee Christmas is indeed an excellent Christmas
