The children are always ours, every single one of them, all over the globe; and I am beginning to suspect that whoever is incapable of recognizing this may be incapable of morality.

I would like to recommend this wonderful book - heard the author speak in San Antonio last week.

Wanted to share a thing relating to his description of the US experience/ruling system as a “house of bondage” - I just read about a Hindu story that involves a dragon villain, known as the “Encloser” or “enveloper,” who hoarded within itself “all the waters of the world’s life,” the personification of drought.
This feels like a metaphor (tho of course also does not name the specific evils that Baldwin describes) for what the US ruling class has been doing and continues to do as a superpower thru racism-militarism-capitalism, helping to dam up the world’s water/life supply. Not sure if this is all a little out of place here, but the words encloser and enveloper really stood out.
