Ask not if you’re in a cult. Ask which one? If this sounds like something I would say, you’re right. I’m saying it. But I only say it because Todd Greene said it first. An awful lot of what I set down in words are completely cut, pasted, and borrowed from Todd. He sings, says, draws, paints, and set it all up, and then I repeat what he’s up to in other contexts. I’ve been studying him since I was seventeen which means the exchange has gone on for most of my life. I sometimes convince myself it’s reciprocal.
That took me back to a HOJO’s in 1975 or so eating clams & belly laughing w/my favorite lady. There is nothing like an uncontrollable fit of laughter.. that you cannot rid yourself of no matter how hard u try.
Dr. Dark, thank you for bringing Todd Greene to my attention. I followed him on insta and he became a fast favorite of mine. I'm also the proud owner of that "Alexa" drawing. That dark (no pun intended) humor is comforting, in a way. Because when life feels dystopian there's a relief when artists can say "it's not just you."
Yeah, I love Todd's work. We have a few in our house and plan to have more in the future. I think it's true that recognizing our own vulnerability is one of the most important things any of us can do.
Fun thing. Dr. Larycia Hawkins' flight was cancelled, so she was able to join us (along with other lovely people who found out about the show the night before at the screening of Same God). It is my hope that Reality Winner will one day be free to visit Nashville and behold Todd's art in person. We are a beginning.
