I have somewhat random images sitting on my desktop which I've drawn out of the internet ocean for reasons I can't always recall. The looks on these men's faces seem like something out of Hereditary or a Kubrick film or maybe Twin Peaks. And yes, one of them supported the appointment of Brett Kavanaugh and backed 45 against the people of Ukraine and betrayed his oath to uphold the Constitution and went on to become President of the University of Florida (the one in the middle, I think). The one to his right lied to the F.B.I., but also, I think, managed to stay out of prison. I'm not sure who the other one is. I thought the image fit the song somehow, as well as the crushingly well-funded threats we're confronting in Nashville. Thanks for asking, Todd.
The scripture at church this morning concludes with John 19:15: “we have no king except the emperor.” The power of that confession and this song are a lot to digest on a Sunday morning and I’m grateful for both.
Tragically and beautifully written, this poem wreaks havoc in my human body. We must face these dark and wondrous days as we move forward into the light. Thank you, Sarah and David.
Thank you, Barbara. Bob told me to keep doing what I'm doing. He also put his hand on my neck and told me to grow up. I'm gonna do both. Love from Barcelona.
So powerful.
I preached on this text from Matthew today.
Thought it went pretty well.
Then I heard this.
Thank you.
I’m curious what the connection is between this poem and the photo. I recognize Ben Sasse, but not the others.
