Publicly partnering with people who've been charged with crimes and who'll be charged with even more crimes if people who haven't been charged with crimes stop publicly partnering with them is a very strange move for *checks notes* every Republican in elected office.
I....don't think they see it that way. From what I can glean, many imagine they're doing God's will and that Jesus' blood absolves them of responsibility for their abusive behavior.
