“Sophia is the mercy of God in us. She is the tenderness with which the infinitely mysterious power of pardon turns the darkness of our sins into the light of grace. She is the inexhaustible fountain of kindness, and would almost seem to be, in herself, all mercy. So she does in us a greater work than that of Creation: the work of new being in Grace, the work of pardon, the work of transformation from brightness to brightness as from the Spirit of the Lord.” - Thomas Merton “Hagia Sophia”

Brother J., I'm gonna note here that one of the gifts of my life is my friendship with folks like yourself who once did me the kindness of impersonating students while I was impersonating a teacher. You and Dan both played along with me in this activity and now THE TURNS HAVE TABLED as Dan provides *me* with learning material and then you...a few states away...grant me more context concerning what was places in front of me. The gates of heaven are everywhere. Thank you. I propose a toast. *raises mug* To sophia without and within and all around us.

I sometimes consider myself lucky to return to the same wiser people over and over. My memory has never been what i hoped it would be so i return, as we probably should, to the same revelations over and over. I have kept with me an exchange from school years ago. One of several guideposts. When asked if you were a Christian, not sure by who, your response in my memory is "I try to be." Which, I think is a proper humble response when asked to take on the weight of that word. "I try to be" leaves room for growth in a creation that is never finished. *raises mug* to sophia and the Incarnate Word
