And yes, we discuss a religious ritual somewhat unique to the United States of America: A pledge of allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands.
My son graduated from a Christian HS a couple years ago, and of course, the ceremony included the pledge to the flag. I stood silently and couldn’t help but notice the six or so international students in his class who appeared to be going along with it all. I wonder what they thought of it.
